Lexicology as a branch of linguistics deals with the peculiarities in the vocabulary of the English language. It studies words and word combinations, their origin, development and current use. On completion of the course students will identify and analyse the linguistic phenomena which deal with the word structure, origin, distribution and semantic relations between words in Modern English. These skills together with the awareness in word correlations develop students' linguistic competence which is very important for their future professional activity.
